The
Eastern End of Crete is a natural and archaeological
paradise, ideal touristic destination for families and
people looking for relaxing holidays.
Hotel Marina Village is built in the
olive grove of Palaikastro at the east coast of the
island, 2kms far from the village (or 900m on foot)
and 800m from the local bays of Hiona and Kouremenos.
Hiona
Bay of the three sandy beaches is a protected
area, because of the great archaeological interest.
Maybe the key to the mystery of Minoan Civilization
is buried here. Some fish taverns complete the idyllic
scenery of the untouched landscape.
Kouremenos Bay of the two long sandy
beaches ending at the fishing harbour and the windsurfing
school lies northern of Kastri Hill, which divides the
coastline in the two bays.
Going back to Palaikastro from the hotel, someone meets
the traditional settlement Agathias (300m on foot) with
some good family run taverns and then Palaikastro, where
the heart of life beats at the main square but every
narrow road is a challenge for a walk.
Here
you can visit the unique palm forest Vai,
Erimoupolis bay, the land of the half
broken in the sea today Hellenistic town Itanos, Toplou
Monastery, a siluet of a Byzantine feeling
characterising the entire area till Cavo (Cape) Sidero,
the north – east end of Crete. And the plateau
that dominates the east coast of the island and is today
a monument of the Cretan life through the centuries.
Going south from Palaikastro, the road will drive you
to Zakros, to Kato Zakros,
a long beach with some fish taverns well known because
of the ruins of the Minoan palace there, and then to
Xerokampos bay.
Discover
the unique Eastern End
of Crete. Pure nature (a Natura 2000
area), paradise beaches, friendly people and traditional
way of life create an idyllic touristic destination.
For those who seek the beauty of life, which has hymned
the Minoan Civilization of the strong sun and the simple
wisdom. Untouched landscapes, kilometres of walking
paths, hidden virgin beaches and a crossroad of various
cultures through the ages.
